Born August 19th, 1969 in Williamstown, Massachusetts, Matthew Perry was raised in the city of Ottawa in Ontario, Canada, he is the only child. At the age of 15, he moved to Los Angeles to live with his father, actor John Bennett Perry, after his parents split up. Matthew was a talented tennis player ever since he was four. And even though he was ranked at number 17 nationally in the junior singles league and number three in the doubles competition, he decided to pursue another hobby of his, acting. His interest in acting grew as performed more and more high school stage productions. Today, he's known to almost everyone as Chandler in the sitcom "Friends".
After he landed his first big role as George Gibbs in the 1985 Buckley School production of "Our Town". His big break however, came through a waitress in a San Fernando Valley restaurant She managed to get him in contact with a director, who had spotted Matthew in the restaurant and wanted to invite him for an audition. Matthew succeeded and won a small role in the 1988 River Phoenix movie "A Night In the Life of Jimmy Reardon
Matthew planned to enroll at the University of Southern California just when he was offered a leading role on the TV series "Boys Will Be Boys". He decided to continue with his acting career instead of studying and booked several small successes with roles on "Home Free", "Sydney" and on "Growing Pains". He also guest-starred on several other shows like "Beverly Hills 90210", "Who's the Boss?", "The Tracey Ullman Show", "Empty Nest", and "The John Larroquette Show".
In 1993, Matthew and his good friend Andrew Hill Newman started to write their own sitcom called "Maxwell's House". The story revolved around the lives of over twenty friends and their problems. But NBC already had a similar show in the works, which was later on known as "Friends". One year later, Matthew auditioned for the new show and won the part of Chandler Bing, which his absolute breakthrough.
